A man has been charged for allegedly trying to break into a 100 Mile House home while the town has been under an evacuation order due to the massive forest fires in the area.
Brett Albe Berube, 53, faces one count each of break and enter with intent to commit an offence under the Criminal Code and contravening a state of emergency under the provincial Emergency Program Act.
Berube was arrested on Monday in the community 328 kilometres south of Prince George and appeared in Kamloops provincial court on Tuesday.
He was released on $500 bail and is next scheduled to appear in court this Monday.
Also, two people RCMP say are prolific offenders were arrested Tuesday in Williams Lake where a routine vehicle stop that led to something bigger.
During a search of their vehicle, police located a television which is believed to have been taken during a break and enter from an evacuated home in the Wildwood area on Saturday, B.C. RCMP Staff Sergeant Annie Linteau said during a teleconference with provincial media.
Search warrants were subsequently executed Wednesday on a 10th Avenue North home and on an 11th Avenue home where police uncovered items believed to have been taken from three other evacuated homes.
A 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were taken into custody. Their names were not provided.
"We're continuing to patrol evacuated zones on a 24-hour basis," Linteau said.
