A fleet of coach-style buses make up the BC Bus North service now operating in northern B.C.

Carrier Sekani Family Services is welcoming the BC Bus North service.

"It's definitely something I have been personally committed to and we are extremely pleased that there are more safe travel options for the north," said CSFS executive director Mary Teegee.

"I applaud the work of municipalities, First Nations and government on the newly launched transit services. This is a good example of true partnership and effective collaboration.

"The north should be used as a model for the rest of the province since greyhound has pulled their service out of the entire province of B.C."

In the time since it first took the region's highways on June 4, 670 trips have been booked so far.

Operating as a one-year pilot project with the help of $2 million from the provincial government, it provides two round-trips per week, between Prince Rupert and Prince George, Prince George and Valemount, and Prince George to Dawson Creek-Fort St. John. Additionally, it offers one round-trip per week from Fort Nelson to Dawson Creek-Fort St. John.

One-way fares are either $35 or $45 per route, depending on how far people are travelling. Seats must be booked by 2 p.m. the day before by calling toll-free 1-844-564-7494 or, if you're in Prince George, 250-564-0161.
