Police were confirming nothing, Monday evening, but witnesses reported a substantial RCMP operation west of the city during the day.
A large number of police vehicles and personnel were on the side of a road off of Highway 16 West in the general vicinity of Bednesti Lake for most of the daylight hours on Monday, according to observers. Marked and unmarked vehicles, uniformed and plain-clothed members were at the centre of the activity.
It was noted that no crashed vehicles or apparently impounded vehicles were present at the scene nor were there signs of any arrests being made. The authorities were, rather, apparently involved in an intense search of some undisclosed kind, focused on a heavily wooded area.
There was no response from official police spokespeople as to what investigators were doing at the site. Comment was refused when pressed with questions by The Citizen, even to confirm or deny their presence at the rural location.
