School District 57 has received close to $1 million for building upgrades for seven schools in Prince George.
The funding, part of a $198 million funding announcement by the provincial government for school building maintenance, will be used for mechanical or safety improvements in schools throughout the province.
SD 57 will see $930,000 for its School Enhancement Fund for the 2018-19 school year.
These upgrades will include:
An improvement to the dust collection system for Prince George secondary school
Radon mitigation and control programs for Edgewood elementary, Harwin elementary, Quinson elementary, Spruceland elementary, College Heights secondary and D.P. Todd secondary
The development of a district-wide asbestos management plan.
According to a government media release, this additional funding is the first increase to the Annual Facilities Grant of the Ministry of Education in over 14 years.
The Annual Facilities Grant is the main mechanism through which the province funds school districts for building maintenance. The total grant funding for this year was $115.5 million, $5 million more than last year, according to a government media release.
