UNBC has been named one of B.C's top 100 employers for the fourth time in six years.
The university was recognized for work-life balance, health and parental leave benefits and ongoing educational opportunities.
"UNBC faculty and staff work diligently to create a welcoming, constructive and collaborative workplace and this award recognizes this commitment to excellence," said UNBC president Daniel Weeks.
"By fostering a positive work environment, UNBC is able to recruit and retain exceptional faculty and staff."
Now in its 12th year, the annual competition, organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers, recognizes employers in B.C. who lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.
Editors also look at criteria such as physical workplace, work atmosphere, training and skills development and employee communications.
"For us, employee engagement is important," said Barb Daigle, UNBC vice-president. "We offer employees to fill-out employee engagement surveys. Last year we received great feedback. This is an excellent opportunity for employee development and something we want to continue."
According to the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers list, UNBC helps employees balance their personal and working lives with a variety of alternative working options including compressed and shortened weeks, a 35-hour work week and an earned days off program.
The university also offers continued education for employees including tuition subsidies. UNBC continues to support new mothers with generous maternity and parental leave top-up payments. These benefits are offered to new fathers and adoptive parents, as well.
New parents are also able to take advantage of an onsite child care facility.
"We have developed a committed group of faculty, staff and students here in creating a community," Daigle said.
