The University of Northern B.C. has reached a tentative five-year agreement with its non-faculty staff, the Ministry of Advanced Education announced Tuesday.
Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3799 represents 380 staff, including support staff and English Language Studies.
The union said it would meet with members Wednesday to go over the agreement and have its ratification vote.
“I would like to thank the members of both the university and the CUPE Local bargaining teams for their insight and ability to work collaboratively to bring this round of bargaining to an end in a timely manner,” saidCaroline Sewell, local president, in its statement.
The ministry said the UNBC staff have joined more than 230,000 public-sector employees under tentative or ratified agreements using its Economic Stability Mandate, which the province applies to all collective agreements that expired after Dec. 31, 2013.
The mandate requires employers to negotiate within a “fixed fiscal envelope.”
