Record-setting numbers of travellers passed through Prince George Airport in July and August.
The count for July was more than 42,000, an 18-per-cent increase over the same month last year, and for August it was close to 46,000, a 21-per-cent jump.
"We believe the wildfires in B.C.'s Interior played a role in the increases as many people changed their summer travel plans because of the uncertainty with highway closures" said Prince George Airport Authority president and CEO John Gibson.
"Central Mountain Air's additional flights to Edmonton, through to Calgary, and their non-stop flight to Dawson Creek can also be attributed to the double digit increase."
Other months that experienced high growth this year included April at nine per cent and May with six per cent over the same months last year.
At this point of time, year to date traffic is up 7.6 per cent over 2016.
Last year, 462,007 passengers travelled in and out of the Prince George Airport.
