The Duchess Park Condors defeated the Nanaimo Islanders 66-59 Friday and will play for ninth place at the B.C. triple-A boys basketball championship in Langley.
Senior guard Jasper Yutuc was the offensive leader for Duchess Park with a game-high 26 points and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line. Colburn Pearce hit for 18 points and Cody Boulding hauled in nine rebounds. Anders Cederberg paced the Islanders with 18 points.
Duchess Park trailed 31-23 at the half but came out flying for the third quarter, outscoring Nanaimo 25-13 to grab a six-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes. The Condors missed just one of their nine free-throw attempts in the second half.
The Condors (2-1) were ranked ninth to begin the 16-team tournament and lost their opener 69-51 to Mark Isfeld of Courtenay.
Duchess Park topped L.V. Rogers of Nelson 80-67 on Thursday.
The Condors play the Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops for ninth place today at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, at the double-A provincial championship in Langley, the Kelly Road Roadrunners (1-2) got themselves into the win column Friday, defeating the Prince Charles Bulldogs of Creston 78-71.
Solomon Dugdale, the North Central zone MVP, collected 17 points to spice the Roadrunner attack. Garrett Ainsworth contributed 14 points, Matt Price had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Ethan Coleman picked up 11 points. Seth Lapre grabbed 11 rebounds for Kelly Road. Jacob Dumas, with 28 points, was the top shooter for the Bulldogs.
The Roadrunners trailed 33-27 at halftime, but rallied in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 30-16.
The Roadrunners lost their first two games 84-37 to St. Michael's of Victoria and 77-69 to Delview of Delta.
Kelly Road will take on the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops for 13th place today at 11:30 a.m.
