The UNBC Timberwolves will host the University of Calgary Dinos to start the 2017-18 Canada West men's and women's basketball seasons.
The games will be played on Oct. 27 at the Northern Sport Centre and will mark the beginning of the school's sixth year at the Canada West level. Each UNBC team will play a 20-game regular schedule, and 12 of 16 clubs will advance to the playoffs.
For the upcoming season, the Canada West Final Four tournaments have been eliminated. After the best-of-three semifinals are complete, single games will determine the conference champions and bronze medalists.
The male T-wolves, with a 4-16 record, missed the playoffs last season. They'll be in for a tough test against the Dinos, who went 16-4 and then earned bronze in the playoffs with a 111-106 overtime win against Saskatchewan.
The UNBC women, meanwhile, were first-time playoff qualifiers in 2016-17. Thanks to a 6-14 record, they clinched the 12th and final post-season berth. The Dinos (11-9) were the ninth seed for playoffs.
The UNBC and U of C teams will also meet on Oct. 28 at the NSC. Other home games are: Nov. 10-11 vs. UBC; Nov. 17-18 vs. Regina; Jan. 5-6 vs. UBC Okanagan; and Jan. 26-27 vs. Fraser Valley.
