Powell River conservation officers seek bear feeding information

Public assistance requested regarding reported incident on Highway 101, north of the city

SEEKING REPORT: Information is being sought by the conservation officer service into the possible feeding of a black bear near Gibsons Beach on August 24.

Powell River Conservation Officer Service is seeking assistance from the public for any information involving the possible feeding of a black bear from a white or light silver SUV on August 24.

According to a media release, the incident took place on Highway 101 at the intersection to Gibsons Beach north of Powell River. The release stated that someone reported a parked white or light silver SUV in the northbound lane of Highway 101 facing the wrong direction. The person reported a bear within five feet of the vehicle, fixated on the ground, and an arm extended out the window of the vehicle, according to the release.
