Scott Gow finished 36th as the top Canadian in Saturday’s BMW IBU World Cup biathlon men’s pursuit in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.
Gow, the 30-year-old senior member of the Canadian team, started the race 31st and shot 14-for-20 in four rounds of shooting and ended up 3:14.0 behind pace-setter Quentin Fillon Maillet of France. Fillon Maillet, who won Friday’s sprint and was first out of the gate in the pursuit, had two missed targets and finished the 12.5-kilometre course in 28:46.7
Johannes Thingnes Boe of Norway (1+-0-0-1, +8.0) won silver and Emilien Jaquelin of France (0-0-1-0, +14.6) was the bronze medalist.
Christian Gow of Canmore, Scott’s 27-year-old brother, placed 38th (0-0-2-0, +3:31.6). He gained 16 positions in the race after qualifying 54th.
Tiril Eckhoff of Norway captured the women’s 10 km pursuit in 27:13.6, missing just one target. Dzinara Alimbekava of Belarus (0-0-0-0, +34.6) and Franziska Preuss of Germany (0-1-0-1, +40.2) also made the medal podium.
Racing in Nove Mesto wraps up Sunday with the relays.
Sarah Beaudry of Prince George will team up with Nadia Moser of Whitehorse, Yukon, Adam Runnalls of Calgary and Scott Gow to represent Canada in the mixed relay, while Emma Lunder of Vernon and Christian Gow are scheduled to race in the single mixed relay. Beaudry finished 66th in Friday\s sprint race.
