Colby Graham of Prince George rode his board to an all-time best 17th-place finish Sunday on the World Cup snowboard cross tour in Chiesa in Valmalenco, Italy.
The 19-year-old Graham’s previous high placing came a year ago at Big White near Kelowna, where he finished 47th on Jan. 25, 2020. He was 65th in Saturday’s season-opening race.
It was also a good day on the slopes for Evan Bichon of Prince George. The 22-year-old posed a career-best 33rd on the senior circuit, after placing 63rd the previous day.
Meryeta O’Dine of Prince George was 17th in the women’s race, matching her placing in Saturday’s race.
Alessandro Haemmerle of Austria topped the 63-racer men’s field Sunday. Merlin Surget of France claimed silver and Hagen Kearney of the U.S. was the bronze medalist.
Eva Samkova of te Czech Republic won the women's race ahead of silver medalist Faye Gulina of the U.S. and third-place Julia de Souda Mabileau of France.
Eliot Grondin of Ste-Marie, Que., who won silver on Saturday, was eighth.
Other Canadian results were as follows: Men - Kevin Hill of Vernon was 17th, Liam Moffatt of Truro, N.S., was 25th. Women - Zoe Bergermann of Erin , Ont., was ninth, Audrey McMainiman of Sainte-Ambrose-de-Kildare, Que., was 17th, Justinen Kennedy of Whistler was 33rd and Carle Brenneman of Comox was 39th.
The World Cup tour moves on to St. Lary, France for races this weekend.
