Driver foiled by beer can, say Fort St. John RCMP

The Fort St. John RCMP say one of their officers spotted a beer can on the trunk of an old Cavalier car during a patrol on Feb. 9, leading to a roadside ban after the driver was tested for impaired driving.

The Fort St. John RCMP say one of their officers spotted a beer can on the trunk of an old Cavalier car during a patrol on Feb. 9 around 10:49 pm, as the vehicle was being driven down a road.

The police officer then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and screened the driver to test for impaired driving, which resulted a "Warn" test result, explained a press release.

The driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle was towed to their residence at their expense. The driver walked home with his dog to his nearby residence.

"Consumption of alcohol impairs our brains thought processes and reaction speeds while driving. In this instance, the driver finished their last drink just prior to driving and forgot where they put their beer can which inevitably lead to them losing their license for three days," wrote Cst. Chad Neustaeter, Fort St. John RCMP Media Relations Officer.

The Fort St John RCMP wish to remind the driving public to not drink and drive, notes the release.

"There are many practical and inexpensive ways to enjoy alcohol and not have to drive a vehicle, including getting a taxi, ride service, a friend or family member to give you a ride, or even walking home if the weather is nice. A taxi costs far less that losing your license and getting your vehicle towed, potentially impounded and other more damaging consequences you may have to live with the rest of your life," they added.
