Firefighters douse wildfire near B.C. rec site

A wildfire burning near a recreation site is now being considered out and no longer burning. 

BC Wildfire Service updated the status of the fire on the evening of July 8.

A crew of firefighters is tackling a wildfire burning along the Elaho River.

BC Wildfire Service was first alerted to the fire burning near the Squamish-Elaho Recreation Site on Sunday at 5 p.m. 

Fire information officer Jade Richardson tells Glacier Media there is a crew of three firefighters working at the fire on Monday. 

The fire spread into trees and the ground on a hillside and could be seen smouldering on Monday.  

The nearest community is Squamish. The fire is located 30 km west of Whistler.

BC Wildfire Service is reporting that the fire is under a hectare in size and is under control. The fire is believed to be human-caused as no lightning was reported in the area at the time.
