The City of Fort St. John has partnered with DocuPet to provide residents a new way of licencing their dogs.

“We are excited to partner with DocuPet as their online licensing solution will be extremely valuable to pet owners and a necessity for animal safety within our community,” said Robert Norton, Director of Public Safety and Fire Chief in a press release.

“This pet licensing partnership will help to reduce the number of animals in our local SPCA facility and open up space and vital resources for pets that truly need our care,” he added.

Registration is available online, by telephone, mail, or in person at city hall, and the new licences come with a unique tag that’s tied to each pet’s online profile - the tag has a code used to help find the owners if the pet is lost.

Designer tags are also available for purchase and 20 percent of every designer tag purchase is donated to local animal welfare initiatives.

All dogs residing in Fort St. John are required to be licenced. All licences expiring on Dec. 31, 2023, will be extended to Jan. 31, 2024, to allow owners to transition into the new program easily.
