The provincial government is set to announce the next steps in bringing ride-hailing to B.C.
Ride-hailing is another term for popular services like Uber and Lyft, which use apps to connect passengers to local drivers who use their personal vehicles. It's a multi-billion-dollar industry that B.C. doesn't participate in (Uber alone is valued somewhere between $70 and $120 billion).
Tomorrow (Nov. 19), the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Claire Trevena, will introduce a new piece of legislation called the Passenger Transportation Amendment Act.
She will offer remarks on the act after a technical briefing and slideshow on the new act are presented at the parliament buildings in Victoria.
The announcement will take place at 1:45 p.m.
