A warning has been issued for the Coquihalla as driving conditions are expected to worsen over today (Dec. 19).

Around 35 cm of snow has fallen on Highway 5 over the past 24 hours, and another 5 to 10 cm are expected to fall by this afternoon, according to Environment Canada, specifically between Merritt and Hope. The government agency warns there will be heavy flurries along the famous section of highway this morning.

"Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult," reads the alert. "Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions."

Currently, Drive B.C. is not reporting any incidents along the highway. Drive B.C. has also issued an alert for road conditions around the Coquihalla summit due to compact snow on the highway.
