A man with a history of committing similar crimes is in custody on several firearms charges.
Prince George RCMP said Kenneth Raymond Bishop, 40, was pulled over near the corner of Highway 97 and 15th Avenue early morning Monday after he was seen driving above the posted speed limit and showing signs of impairment.
Based on evidence found during the stop, he was arrested on a count of possession of a controlled substance and a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded pistol, reported stolen from the North Okanagan in 2020. Cash, drugs and a bag full of ammunition were also seized.
As a result, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved 10 charges - eight of them related to the gun and ammunition and two drug relate and remains in custody.
In 2018, Bishop was sentenced to 733 days in jail for possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm and issued a lifetime firearms prohibition. By that time, Bishop had been in custody for 216 days.
