The Terrace community is organizing a Meal Train and a fundraiser to support a family that lost three members to a highway crash last week.
On March 12, the RCMP reported that two youths and an adult lost their lives after their vehicle collided with a commercial truck on Hwy 37 near Onion lake, between Terrace and Kitimat on the morning of March 11.
The victims of the crash were later identified by Centennial Christian School in Terrace as a mother, Elizabeth Hesketh and her two children Ashton and Kylie.
Centennial Christian School, where the two children were students, laid out flowers for the Heskeths on Monday morning and posted a condolence message on Facebook for the family, loved ones and everyone affected by the accident, including the truck driver, first responders and the RCMP.
The school took to social media to post a condolence message for the Hesketh family that lost three people to a Kitimat-Terrace highway crash on March 11.
Organizers of the Meal Train are also holding an online auction to raise money to help the Hesketh family with the immediate funeral costs and other expenses moving forward. As part of this, community members can sign up to prepare a home-cooked meal and deliver it to the family. So far 16 people have volunteered to prepare meals between March 15 and 31.
The ongoing auction has seen most local businesses contribute items and gift cards for the cause.
The public can volunteer to provide meals or donate by getting in touch with the organizer, Shanon Young on the Facebook group created for the purpose, Auction and Meal Train for the Hesketh’s.
Items can also be dropped off at the Terrace Sportsplex canteen this week, Monday to Thursday between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
An investigation into the incident, which is being conducted by the Kitimat RCMP and BC Coroners Service, is still ongoing.
