Police have launched a proceeds of crime investigation after a traffic stop by Prince George RCMP led to a seizure of $130,000 in cash.
RCMP said Tuesday that police came across the money on May 27 when members were called to a report of a man slumped over over the steering wheel of his vehicle on Damms Road for several hours.
The 30-year-old Vancouver resident, whose name was not released, showed signs of impairment by drugs and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition while the vehicle was impounded. Noticing drug drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, police conducted a search and found the money, RCMP said.
Criminal charges remain pending and RCMP said the Civil Forfeiture Office will be contacted. Money forfeited to the CFO is used to pay for crime prevention programs and victims services.
