Prince George woke up to a sunny Thursday and commuters surely noticed winter is definitely here to start the new year.
The Prince George Airport thermometer dipped to -26 C at 8 a.m., and all that sunshine didn’t do much to warm up the city as the day progressed as the high reached only -18C.
That’s quite a bit colder than the average high/low for this time of year, -6/-14 C.
The good news is the forecast is calling for a slight thaw over the next five days with highs expected to reach -12 C Friday and Saturday and -11 C on Sunday, jumping to -6 C on Monday and -3 C by Tuesday.
But if you have to go outside for an extended period, better bundle up, especially at night.
The overnight temperature tonight of -16 C will feel more like -25 C with the wind chill. Periods of snow are expected with local amounts totaling two centimetres.
There’s a 30 per cent chance of flurries on Friday, rising to 40 per cent on Saturday and back to 30 per cent on Sunday.
Lows will range from -15 C Friday to -13 C on Saturday to -14 on Sunday.
More snow and cloudy skies are in the forecast for Tuesday.
