The local Ghanaian community celebrated the sub-Saharan African nation's independence at City Hall Thursday, March 6 with a proclamation declaring Ghana Independence Day in Prince George.
Mayor Simon Yu and Coun. Garth Frizzell took part in the ceremony with the mayor reading the proclamation and the Ghanaian flag being raised in celebration.
Prince George has been home to Ghanaian people for over 30 years and the Ghanaian community has grown significantly in recent years.
