RCMP are on the lookout for two suspects following a report of shots fired during a robbery in Fort St. James early morning Tuesday and are asking people to avoid travelling North Road for the time being.

Police said the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. when the two were attempting to steal some equipment from a North Road compound and collided with an empty logging truck in the process.

"Two men got out of their vehicle with long guns and made several shots at the logging truck, and a second logging truck that happened on the scene," RCMP said. "The suspects fled in a logging truck but shortly after abandoned the logging truck and stole a Ford F350."

With help from RCMP in Mackenzie and Takla Landing, they set up containment. The emergency response team and police dog service were also called in.

"Police have recovered two guns and while reported that two guns were involved, the men should be considered armed and dangerous at this time. There have been no reports of injuries at this time," RCMP.

Anyone who sees the two is asked to call 911 immediately.

"Under no circumstances should you try to apprehend them," RCMP added.
