Spruce Kings suffer 16th loss this season in Surrey

Eagles scored four times in third period, goalie Aidan Fischer makes 35 saves

The Prince George Spruce Kings ran into a hot goaltender and suffered the consequences.

Aidan Fischer blocked 35 of 36 shots as the game’s first star and the Surrey Eagles scored four times in the third period to defeat the visiting Spruce Kings 4-1 in BC Hockey League action Friday night in Surrey.

Trailing 1-0 in the third period on a goal from Spruce Kings forward Will Moore, Jackson Anderson kickstarted the Surrey offence on an Eagles’ power play. 1:52 into the period.

A few minutes later, Gavin Rocha notched the gamewinner while shorthanded. Brandon Gill and Sihwan Kim, with an empty-netter, completed the scoring.

Dylan Johnson, in his second start since signing with the Spruce Kings from the USHL on Dec. 27, suffered his first BCHL loss, allowing three goals on 31 shots.

The Spruce Kings (10-16-3-1) remained ninth in the Coastal Conference, 13 points behind the fifth-place Eagles (17-11-3-0).

Prince George wraps up its weekend roadtrip with a game Saturday (6 p.m.) against the Chilliwack Chiefs.

The conference-leading Chiefs (20-7-3-0) were 5-1 winners over the Rivermen Friday in Langley.
