A little glitz, a little glamour and a whole lot of dancers will be showcasing their talent while Puttin' on the Ritz Sunday at Vanier Hall at 7 p.m.

The Performers North Entertainment Company, a troupe of 58 dancers, will bring out all the stops, said Judy Russell, owner of Enchainement Dance Centre where Performers North dances.

There's one dancer who is particularly grateful to be performing in the showcase.

Jennifer Johnson, 19, tore her anterior cruciate ligament, better known as ACL, in November 2009, had surgery to fix it in June and just started dancing again at the Prince George Dance Festival held two weeks ago at Vanier Hall.

"When I got hurt it was a real roller coaster," said Johnson. "I almost gave up. I'm not the dancer that I was before."

Before the injury Johnson said it was all about the competition, striving to be the best and getting the technique perfect.

"I dance because I love it now," said Johnson, who has danced at Enchainement since she was three. "I always thought of dance as giving me wings and when I could not dance I felt I lost my wings. I appreciate it for what it is now."

During Puttin' On The Ritz Johnson will be performing in a couple of group numbers and if Russell asks her to perform her solo -- The Swan -- she will happily do that.

Johnson will be heading out on her own this summer to see where the wind takes her, she said. Maybe Los Angeles, maybe Toronto.

"It means everything to me to be able to dance again," said Johnson. "I'm never going to give this up."

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. All proceeds go to Judy Russell's Performers North. The fundraiser will help the dancers with the expense of travelling to the B.C. Annual Dance competition in Prince Rupert during the first week of May.
