A contingent of Prince George dancers is taking the next step in their development, and early summer adventures.

The young performing artists are warming up for a trip to Penticton this coming week for the provincial competitive dance festival. Students from both Bonnie Leach's Excalibur Theatre Arts Company and Judy Russell's Enchainement Dance Studio are representing the city at this annual event.

From Excalibur, three students are making the trek to the provincial stage. They are Airah Truant and Shayla Dyble, both in the ballet category, and Grace Waldie in the modern category.

From Enchainement the ballet dancers are Kendra Hamelin, Laura Buchanan, Laika Wintemute, Cassie Poitras, Kyra Sinclair and Ashley Burmaster (Steven Buchanan and Kate McGowan as observers). The stage dance discipline will be done by Sara McGowan, Makenna Thiffault, Jenna Magrath, Tristan Ghostkeeper and Courtney Hatley. The modern category will be handled by Maggie Trepanier and Amber Downie-Back.

The BC Performing Arts Festival starts June 3 and runs until June 7. It is where the highest achieving young actors, dancers, orators and musicians gather each year, as it moves from region to region showcasing the best in B.C.'s burgeoning talent. There they will be exposed to performance experience, professional adjudications, informative workshops, develop their peer network, and have fun.

The provincial organization's president is Prince George's Robin Norman and the director for the host Penticton area is Debbie McGladdery, a former P.G. resident.
