Feature Gallery opens to new inspiration and design

Community Arts Council to exhibit Crystal Desharnais and Jan Rose

The Community Arts Council is exhibiting two new artists in the Feature Gallery for April and May.

Crystal Desharnais and Jan Rose will have their opening event tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Studio 2880.

Nothing is more exciting for Desharnais than to be able to step into a world of colour and passion for painting.

"My style is never going to arrive," she said. "I hope to never land on one particular way of doing things. I want to always be growing and changing, learning and letting what I experience influence me in all that I create."

Alive Again - The Truth Project is a new collection created by Desharnais Desharnais that speaks to the magnificence of life through the lens of Truth. This perspective of truth for Desharnais is an examination of her from within and the world around her.

Through the exploration of truth there is an awakening of life that is provoked that cannot be ignored.

Desharnais's love for God is her greatest source of inspiration.

Each painting is approached with a sense of sincerity. Nothing is held back or hidden.

Painting to express what she is feeling or what God has inspired her to create has enable Desharnais to create unique, beautiful and free from outside expectations art that is like no other.

The full collection of Desharnais's work may be viewed at www.blessingsstudio.com.

Jan Rose has been creating unique, handcrafted jewelry in her home studio, Roseworks Jewelry, for over five years on an acreage eight kilometres from Prince George.

Rose works mainly in sterling silver, semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, and copper. Their infinite variety of shapes, colors, and textures always provides her with inspiration.

"There is a great feeling of satisfaction in creating a piece that you know is 'right'," she said. "The serendipity of the often evolving and occasionally surprising creation of a piece is what makes this art form so interesting. I believe the smallest detail in a piece is as important as what immediately catches your eye."

Rose also makes a line of jewelry she calls "Paper and Pearls", using freshwater pearls and recycled paper beads from BeadforLife, a non-profit organization supporting impoverished women in Uganda.

Rose can be contacted at [email protected], or by phone at 250-963-9258. Her jewelry can also be found online at her "Etsy shop," www.JRoseWorksJewelry.etsy.com.

Come meet the artists at the gallery's opening event tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. with light refreshments and 10 per cent off all Gift Shoppe merchandise.
