The first annual Community Moves Festival will see collaborative performances with local musicians, actors, photographers and visual artists.
Classes, workshops and shows, presented by Method Dance Society, will take place at a variety of locations including Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park and the Prince George Playhouse.
The festival takes place May 25 to 27 and starts with a giant community warm-up that includes an outdoor jam session, free arts-based performances and installations.
The Playhouse Performance series goes May 25, 26, 27 and features Prince George’s most celebrated talent including Kym Gouchie, Nove Voce, Shoshanna Godber, Bryn Porter, Keilani Elizabeth Rose, and Jon Russell.
Under the artistic direction of Shelby Richardson and the musical direction of Barbara Parker, Community Moves will showcase live and recorded classical, contemporary, soul, choral and electronic compositions.
Workshops for the festival will include classes for experienced dancers and those with no previous dance experience, outdoor yoga, choreographic development and open movement.
“We have been waiting for a long time to create a project that is rooted in collaborative creation and live performance,” Shelby Richardson, artistic director, said.
“Watching the creativity and excitement pouring out of these artists is truly inspiring. It is so wonderful to see the overwhelming support Community Moves has garnered from within our community and beyond.”

Workshops and classes cost start at $20 per workshop or class or purchase a full workshop pass for $100 to access all six workshops. Performance tickets start at $30 for students/ seniors and $35 for general admission. Closing reception tickets are $25 and include performances, music and food.
