Vancouver Film School is now accepting scholarship applications from Indigenous peoples.
VFS is offering up to $162,000 in scholarships to Indigenous students looking to enroll in select VFS production programs to support the continued growth of Indigenous artists in the industry.
The winners will enroll in their choice of program from VFS’s School of Animation, School of Film and Television, or School of Games and Creative Design.
To apply, prospective students will be required to submit a creative link to their portfolio (requirements are program-specific) and answer three personal submission questions.
“VFS is proud to once again offer the Indigenous Peoples Scholarship,” says Jonathan Bell, Managing Director of VFS.
“This scholarship aims to make the creative industries more accessible by offering industry-level training to promising Indigenous filmmakers, designers, actors, animators, and more. Grace Dove, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, and Alexander Lasheras are just a few of the talented alumni who have graduated from VFS, and we look forward to continuing our mission of launching the next generations of creative talent.”
VFS offers two full tuition scholarships, two partial tuition scholarships of $15,000 and three partial tuition scholarships of $8,000.
Applicants must identify as First Nations (status or non-status), Inuit, or Métis, and must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the program’s start date.
The $150 application fee will be waived for the scholarship application process. However, all scholarship winners will be required to pay the $150 application fee to enroll at VFS.
So far in 2023, VFS alumni worked on the highest-grossing films, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and John Wick: Chapter 4, on the best-selling games, from Resident Evil 4 to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the most-watched TV series, including The Last of Us and The White Lotus , and for massive companies like Disney, Microsoft, Sony, HBO, Tesla, and Google.
