Prince George has been ranked the 28th most economically resilient city in BC.

BCBusiness has released its 2024 rankings of B.C.'s 50 most economically resilient cities, with Prince George placing 28th.

It's an improvement over the same survey's ranking in 2023, which put Prince George at 35th.

The survey highlights growth in Prince George, with the city climbing seven spots from last year’s rankings, along with six per cent population growth over the past five years and a rental vacancy rate of three per cent per 10,000 residents.

In addition, there was a 1.9 per cent increase in available jobs over the past year, with the average annual unemployment rate standing at 5.48 per cent.

The survey includes data on cities' household financial vulnerability, residents' sense of belonging, residential sales per 10,000 people, and economic diversity.

Sidney took the top spot in the rankings, while Quesnel ranked 50th.

A surprising success story was Duncan, which jumped 19 spots from its 2024 position.

This study covered 50 municipalities in BC with populations of at least 10,000 residents.

The data was compiled by BCBusiness in partnership with Environics Analytics, a company specializing in data collection and analysis for marketing and advertising.

Additional statistics on job numbers and unemployment rates were gathered through StatCan's monthly Labour Force Survey.

Monthly data on housing starts and rental vacancy rates were provided by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.
