Ballet Kelowna Artists in "taqəš and Other Works"

Prince George residents are in for a treat as Ballet Kelowna brings its mesmerizing repertoire to Vanier Hall on Friday, April 5.

The highly anticipated performance, titled "taqəš and Other Works," promises an evening of stunning contemporary ballet that will captivate audiences of all ages.

The program features a lineup of signature works from Ballet Kelowna's repertoire, showcasing the company's versatility and artistry.

Headlining the evening is Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s powerful and compelling taqəš [tawKESH], a piece that delves into cultural narratives and storytelling.

Fraser-Monroe, drawing from his classical ballet training and Indigenous heritage, offers a unique perspective on traditional tales, captivating the audience with every movement.

Adding to the excitement is Guillaume Côté's mesmerizing interpretation of Maurice Ravel's Boléro. As a choreographic associate of the National Ballet of Canada, Côté brings strength and fragility to this beloved piece, infusing it with breathtaking lifts and virtuosic choreography. Audiences can expect a "riveting tour de force" that will leave them spellbound.

Rounding out the program is Fraser-Monroe’s satirical The Cowboy Act Suite, a high-energy piece that flips the script on traditional Western narratives, challenging stereotypes and inviting reflection.

In addition to the performance, Ballet Kelowna will host a series of masterclasses on Thursday led by rehearsal director Joanna Lige.

These workshops offer aspiring dancers the opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional and enhance their skills in a supportive environment. Senior workshops are sold out but there is still room available for the junior session.

The Community Arts Council of Prince George and Trinity United Church extend their gratitude to the BC Touring Council, Canadian Tire, and the Province of BC for their ongoing support, which helps make events like this possible.

Tickets for Ballet Kelowna's performance at Vanier Hall are available at www.ticketsnorth.ca. For more information about the masterclass series, visit www.studio2880.com.
