A Prince George man who died in a single-vehicle crash in the Pineview area last summer was drunk and not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, according to a coroner's report released this week.
Aaron Maurice Nickerson, 40, was the sole occupant of the 1997 Sierra GMC pickup truck he was driving when it went off the right side of Old Cariboo Highway on Aug. 18, 2013 at 2:20 a.m., struck a residential access, vaulted over the driveway culvert and landed in a ditch about three metres deep.
The section of the highway south of Holmes Road was straight, clean and dry, and a RCMP collision analyst determined Nickerson had been going 67 km/h in a 70 km/h zone and no mechanical trouble was found in the truck.
Toxicology results showed "a heavy level of intoxication with alcohol" and Nickerson was not wearing a seatbelt when he was found at the scene, the report said.
