This year's Labour Day celebrations take place at Canada Games Plaza on Monday, Sept. 2.

The annual Labour Day March and Celebration in Prince George sees festivities scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2 in Canada Games Plaza.

There will feature a short march through downtown followed at noon by a celebration at the plaza which will include speakers, music, free food, games for kids, display booths and other activities. Things continue until 3 p.m.

The Labour Day organizing committee is co-ordinating the event, along with the North Central Labour Council and other local unions and community organizations.

The theme for the festivities this year is the labour movement – past, present, future – fighting for the rights of all. The purpose is to highlight the vital role of labour in the community and the many contributions the labour movement has made to the betterment of all in society.

Everyone is invited to attend the event where there will be free food and entertainment.

Food includes barbecued hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, juice, candy and other treats.

There’s lots to keep the children busy, including an inflatable bouncy castle, face painting, the Little Prince miniature railway and a petting farm. Entertainment will include local band, Cottonwood, along with Kevin Hutchings, and other local musicians.

“Our Labour Day march and celebration is one of the largest in the province and the country,” said Tyler Dergousoff, chair of the Labour Day organizing committee. “This year the organizing is going well and we are expecting another successful event.”
