This weekend PGSS will be hosting "Welcome to generation YES - Youth Exploring Solutions" the B.C. student conference.

This weekend PGSS will be hosting "Welcome to generation YES - Youth Exploring Solutions" the B.C. student conference. The PGSS drama department is working on production for Shakespeare's comedy "Twelfth Night" to be presented by the senior acting students on Nov. 23 to 27 at 7 p.m. in Vanier Hall. Doors open 6:30 p.m. Tickets at the door $8 all seats. Matinees, Nov. 25 to 27 at 1 p.m.

"Oliver Twist" a drama, by Robert Thomas Noll will be performed Dec. 7 to 11 at 7 p.m. in Vanier Hall. Doors open 6:30. Tickets at the door $8 adults, $5 seniors and students. (PG 13 for violence and language). Matinees Dec. 9 to 11 at 1 p.m.

Many thanks to Mrs. Thibault (who ate assorted worms), and Ms. Jackson (who varied her snacking with crickets), during Madame Jackson's Fear Factor event in her French 9 classes. They not only dined on insects, but they asked for them en francais!

Mrs. Mulligan's forensic science students were busy looking for clues as they tried to solve the "crime scene" CSI style.

This weekend in volleyball the Sr. Boys will be at Kelly Road secondary while the Sr. Girls are away in Vernon. The Jr. B boys play at College Heights secondary while the girls are in Kamloops.

Every Friday at Westwood elementary, staff and students will spend the first 10 minutes walking around the school. It is nice to see the families in the community joining us each week. The Grade 6 and 7 classes will have the opportunity to work with Constable Greenlees as they work through six lessons of the BRAVE (Bully Resistance and Violence Education) program, followed by graduation.

Volleyball season is underway for Grade 6 and 7.

Students and staff are looking forward to the first PAC organized lunch of the year as a Subway lunch is planned for Oct. 21.

Students in Grade 7 are practicing their storytelling skills as they prepare to share some spooky tales with the primary classes for Halloween. These scary stories, as well as a costume parade for the primary students, will take place on Friday, Oct. 29.

The parent support group at Sacred Heart school will host a Family Movie Night on Friday, Oct. 22, beginning at 7 p.m. inthe primary assembly space. The PSG members are planning a Halloween dance on Friday, Oct. 29 in the school gym. The Grade 2/3 students visited the P.G. Public Library this week while the kindergarten/Grade 1 class will visit the TwoRivers Art Gallery. We are delighted to welcome Mr. Vogelsand (UNBC) to our school to complete his teaching practicum over the coming weeks. Kindergarten/Grade 1 students were the highest fundraisersfor our recent Terry Fox Walk challenge. They won a class celebration provided by the Grade 6/7 students. The school raised $1,869 for cancer research. Well done, Ms. Ruddy and herclass!

All students of Highglen Montessori elementary are giving focus to environmental care for the month of October.Assemblies held on Wednesday afternoon have been sharing ideas to care for the school environment. Recycling programs are in place again this year and have been centralized to a room in the school.

Seven of our Leadership students will have the opportunity to attend the B.C. Provincial Leadership Conference. They will be part of the opening ceremonies on Thursday and then will be spending their non-instructional day participating in workshops and presentations.

Students from Mrs. Maher and Mrs. Butchart's classrooms will be going to Simon Fraser Lodge to participate in the intergenerational studies.

cole Heather Park elementary school PAC is sponsoring a mascot design contest with all entries to be submitted before the Oct. 28. Naturally, there will be prizes. Mr. Frost has created a terrific Powerpoint displaying logos used in SD57 schools to help students envision the qualities that mascots and logos might have.

HPES is excited to offer a band program fine arts elective this year to students in Grades 5 to 7.

The class will be scheduled twice a week with a full year commitment. The instruments being offered for instruction are clarinet, flute, trumpet and trombone.

On Friday, Oct. 15, Mr. Laupitz and Mrs. Harms took their two Grade 6 classes bowling at the Strike Zone. This fun field trip was a way of rewarding those students who worked very hard through the chaotic start-up of the school year while at the same time giving them a chance to have fun practicing their social responsibility.
