Art for the Young at HeArt is a once-a-month, hour-and-a-half long session at Two Rivers Gallery where everyone is welcome to enjoy the gallery by learning a little something and doing a little something.
Dorothy Michiel is the docent who leads the group that usually only has about five people in it and offers half-hour tours of the two main galleries and then the session ends with a hands-on art making event where guests can create something they might not ordinarily try on their own.
"I was away from my art for quite a few years and I just wanted to get back into it, so I just threw myself into all the courses and classes that I could take," said Terry Mooney, a regular participant of the Art for the Young at HeArt program, who started with oil paints, then went over to water colours and currently she's hooked on acrylics.
"The program is fun and it's a great way to connect with other artists and even if you're not an artist it's great to come and discover something new - your creative side," said Mooney. "And for me it's the social aspect as well. A good word to describe this is therapeutic."
Art for the Young at HeArt offers a no-pressure, friendly opportunity to explore the Two Rivers Gallery in a leisurely way.
"I really enjoy it," said Michiel. "It's an opportunity to get together with other adults to share the gallery and art with them. It's a wonderful way to get to connect with other people."
There are friendships that develop among participants, too, said Mooney.
There is always a time to socialize over a cup of tea.
