Barkerville, the historic pioneer village and tourism attraction south of Prince George, will remain open despite wildfires in the area.

"Barkerville is under an evacuation alert due to the nearby wildfire on Cornish Mountain, and portions of neighboring Wells near 8 Mile Lake deemed at highest risk are under a mandatory evacuation order," states a press release from Barkerville management. "An evacuation alert means those in the area should be ready to leave on short notice. BC Wildfire Service is in the area, and we thank them for everything they are doing to keep us safe."

Some trails in the area have been closed until further notice:

  • Yellowhawk
  • Jubilee
  • Sugar Creek Loop
  • Cornish Mountain
  • Valley Mountain
  • BGM Trail
  • Cow Mountain
  • Proserpine

"Until we have further information, Barkerville is business as usual, and any changes to our operations will be posted on our website and social media channels," states the press release.
