BC Green candidates launch campaigns in Prince George

Gwen Johansson and James Steidle outline their goals at Cottonwood Park

James Steidle, local business owner and founder of Stop the Spray BC, and Gwen Johansson, former mayor of Hudson's Hope, launched their campaigns for the BC Green Party at Cottonwood Island Park Thursday, Oct. 3.

Johansson, who was born and raised in McBride, is running in the Prince George-Valemount riding after 22 years on the Hudson's Hope municipal council, serving the last six as mayor.

At the launch, she outlined some of the issues in her platform, stating cost of living, healthcare and energy and transportation are the major issues she sees as needing attention.

Steidle, running in the Prince George-Mackenzie riding, believes that local ownership of the forest industry, local control of the government and the implementation of non-market and co-op housing models are key to fixing the problems he sees facing British Columbians.

He's an occasional columnist for The Citizen but has put that on hold during the campaign.

Also running for the Greens in the area is Randy Thompson in Prince George-North Cariboo.

Election day is Saturday, Oct. 19.
