The BC Prosecution Service has approved two firearms-related charges against an RCMP officer with BC Highway Patrol in connection with an alleged off-duty incident in Williams Lake.
Cst. Olavo Castro faces one count each of occupying a vehicle knowing there was a restricted firearm therein and unauthorized possession of a loaded restricted firearm in a motor vehicle, both under the Criminal Code.
The counts stem from an alleged July 1 incident in the community of 11,500 people 236 kilometres south of Prince George.
First appearance on the matter is scheduled for October 5 in Williams Lake Provincial Court.
"The charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel with no prior or current connection with the officer," BCPS added in a statement issued Monday afternoon.
