The BC SPCA is issuing a plea to the public after the gruesome death of a miniature pony in Quesnel.

In a release, Manager of Cruelty Investigations for northern B.C. Dr. Teresa Cook says the torso of a miniature horse was found on Garner Road in the West Fraser area of Quesnel.

"This is such a sad and disturbing case, and we hope that someone in the community knows something about this situation and can help us with our investigation," she says.

Cook says the head and limbs of the pony had been severed and removed.

Post mortem results show that the animal was in 'significant distress' before it died.

“We’re asking anyone with information that might be relevant to this case to please call the BC SPCA Call Centre," Cook added.

If you have any information about the incident, you are asked to call the BC SPCA Call Centre at 1-855-622-7722.
