While the BC Northern Exhibition board had high hopes for this year’s fair and were even prepared to do a smaller-scale version of the usual four-day event, the unpredictability of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have put a stop to it once again.
The pandemic restrictions didn’t allow the traditional fair to take place last year and same goes for its 109th year.
“Unfortunately due to the uncertainty of the COVID regulations we’re not able to host the BCNE this year in any form,” Sylvia Lazelle, BCNE general manager, said. “We’ll be back stronger than ever in 2022.”
Because restrictions are constantly changing and there are no guarantees where the province will be when fair time comes, the board had to make the tough decision to cancel again.
It takes months to plan for such a popular multi-activity event and it just didn’t make sense to go through all that to see it cancelled at the last minute, she added.
“Unfortunately we’re down for another year,” Lazelle said. “We certainly thank the community for their support and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the BCNE in 2022.”
