Most people like a good joke, but funny money isn't a laughing matter.
Prince George businesses have been hit hard in recent weeks by counterfeit bills being passed off to pay for goods and services. Once the transaction is complete, the loss is often inflicted on the store or agency that took the money without noticing it was fake.
A senior currency analyst with the Bank of Canada, Katie Robb, is coming to Prince George on Thursday to show merchants, City Hall staff, and the public how to tell the difference between the real deal and the shady shekels.
"It is quick, easy and extremely reliable," Robb told The Citizen. "I will be going through that set of security features so the public can be better protected. The bank has designed them in a way that makes them easy to recognize."
