Prince George businesses that receive calls from a person claiming to be a health inspector with Northern Health should not give out any personal or financial information requested.
It's a telephone scam, said Erin Collins, NH communications officer, adding "NH environmental health officers are not in the practice of seeking financial or other personal information over the phone."
Calls have been made to restaurants asking for information, including tax details, and some have included threats of a fine for not providing the information requested.
Collins, who said similar calls have been placed to facilities in other health regions of the province as well as in Ontario and the U.S., advises the public to verify such callers with the Northern Interior Health Unit or ask for official identification from anyone seeking such information in person.
