Canfor Pulp Products announced it will be curtailing production at Taylor Pulp Mill for a minimum of six weeks, due to supply chain challenges.
Inventory at the mill - located roughly 20 kilometres south of Fort St. John in Taylor, B.C. - has reached capacity, a statement issued by Canfor Pulp on Wednesday said.
“Taylor Pulp has been dealing with ongoing transportation challenges that have significantly impacted the facility’s ability to ship product,” Canfor Pulp CEO Don Kayne said in a statement issued by the company. “We regret the impact the curtailment will have on our employees, their families and the community.”
The mill has been facing increasing fibre costs due to constrained supply in the region and a weaker long-term market for bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP). The curtailment will reduce production of BCTMP at the mill by a minimum of 25,000 tonnes.
“During the curtailment, Canfor Pulp will continue to monitor the supply chain constraints and assess opportunities to improve the operating economics of the mill,” the company statement said.
