The 2018-19 season for Prince George’s top-tier midget hockey team has officially come to a close.
A week after claiming their second B.C. Major Midget Hockey League (BCMML) title in three years, the Cariboo Cougars were swept by the Calgary Buffaloes over the weekend at the best-of-three Pacific Regional Championship series in Alberta.

The Alberta Major Midget League champions ran away in consecutive contests 2-0, punching their ticket to the 2019 Telus Cup in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the eighth time in team history and their first since winning silver in the 2009 national title game.
For Cariboo, this means their season ended just 46 seconds into the overtime period of Game Two, losing by a score of 3-2 on Saturday (April 6).
The Major Midget Cats enjoyed leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before the host team tied it up at 2-2 with less than 10 minutes left in the third period.
Cariboo lost Game One on Friday night (April 5) in a 5-2 setback.
John Herrington, Max Arnold, Booker Daniel, and Curtis Hammond were the goal-scorers in the final two games of the 2018-19 campaign; Devin Chapman and Xavier Cannon each got a start in net during the series.
The Cougars ended the year with 12 wins in their last 15 games, regular season and playoffs.
This included two sweeps in the post-season over the Greater Vancouver Canadians in the BCMML Quarterfinals and against the defending-champion Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in the Finals series on the road.
