Sixty new fires started in 24 hours within the Cariboo Fire Centre's jurisdiction.

Lightening strikes from Tuesday's thunderstorms ignited the fires, which are all currently less than a hectare in size.

Initial attack firefighters are aggressively suppressing these fires, with the aide of helicopters and airtankers.

The Fire Centre anticipated a heightened level of activity in the fires on Wednesday because of more thunderstorms forecasted with more incidents of low relative humidity and gusty wind.

The Cariboo Fire Centre has manned three look-outs and is sending aircraft to make sure new fires are detected early.

The region is also still working on two noteworthy fires.

The Kluskus Fire remains mapped at 460 hectares and is 100 per cent contained.

The other fire is south of Tweedsmuir Park, and being allowed to burn in order to promote the Provincial Park's natural forest ecology. This fire is not threatening any communities, and Forest Service staff are well positioned to act on the fire if it grows beyond predetermined trigger points.
