The People’s Party of Canada candidate for Cariboo-Prince George says he hopes voters across the country will vote their conscience and choose his party in the upcoming federal election, rather than strategically voting for another.
Rudy Sans told the Citizen by phone on Wednesday, March 26 that he has lived and worked in Prince George as a deputy sheriff for the last nine years.
He came to Canada from France at the age of 12 and lived in the Lower Mainland before moving north. He said he participates in a local autocross club, coaches youth rugby, enjoys camping and fishing, and loves traveling.
This election is Sans’ first time running for public office as he challenges 10-year Conservative incumbent Todd Doherty.
He said he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to run after someone recommended that he would be a good fit, and because he believes Canada "is in real trouble."
That trouble, he said, is due to social, economic and sovereignty issues.
While the sovereignty issue that is on many Canadians' minds right now is the escalating trade war between the United States and Canada, Sans said that’s not what he’s referring to.
“The sovereignty issues we’re facing stem from unelected, powerful, influential bodies of people who want to run this country under a different globalist agenda,” he said.
He said these groups include the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
“The World Economic Forum, obviously, has bragged about infiltrating our Members of Parliament directly,” Sans said. “They’re setting up agendas that don’t reflect what Canadians want, and they weren’t elected, so they shouldn’t have any say. Our current politicians shouldn’t follow suit.”
This, he said, is not his belief but a fact.
The other political parties — the Liberals, Conservatives, NDP, Greens, and Bloc Québécois — have been listening to these outside influences, he said.
Monetary policy is another reason Sans supports the PPC and its platform.
He said the PPC doesn’t want Canadians to "be under the iron fist of a central banking system that’s crushing them with inflation and fluctuating interest rates, printing money endlessly, while we no longer have any gold reserves to protect this nation from going bankrupt."
With the resources that Canada possesses, Sans said the country should be one of the richest in the world, but many people are barely making ends meet.
He sees the carbon tax as a contributor to this, with Canada barely contributing to global emissions, while countries like China and India have no restrictions and are growing at a faster rate.
While the Liberals, under new Prime Minister Mark Carney, have committed to eliminating the consumer-facing carbon tax, Sans said the carbon tax levied on industry should also be eliminated.
Since former Conservative MP Maxime Bernier established the PPC in 2018 following his failed bid to lead his former party, the PPC has failed to elect a single MP in two federal elections.
Sans said a lot of voters vote in opposition to a party they don’t want to win.
“I understand where they’re coming from,” he said. “I’m not blind to their argument, but if we’re going to actually pull out of this ahead and thrive as Canadians, we need to look at an alternative that doesn’t include globalist agendas.”
Through his work, Sans said he’s visited many parts of Cariboo — Prince George before. He is currently finalizing his paperwork and organizing his campaign.
He said prospective voters can keep an eye on what he’s doing online at peoplespartyofcanada.ca/candidate/rudy-sans, his Facebook page facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567808342730, and his X account, @rudysansPPC.
Election Day is Monday, April 28. Other candidates in the riding include Angie Bonazzo for the NDP and Jodie Capling for the Green Party of Canada. The Liberal Party of Canada has yet to select a candidate.
