Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) is being recognized internationally for services to Indigenous children and families.
CSFS has won two 2022 Champions for Native Children Awards presented by the American National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA).
The award recognizes “exemplary service to Native children and families” and “significant contributions to the well-being of Indigenous children, families and communities in the United States or Canada”.
“I am truly honoured to accept this award from a sister organization across the border with a similar mission to aid Indigenous children and families, end abuse and improve child welfare while assisting Indigenous people with culturally relevant supports as they need it,” said CSFS Chief Executive Officer Warner Adam.
“I also see this award as an acknowledgment of the hard work and commitment of our CSFS staff and their collective efforts in protecting children and keeping them connected to their families, communities and Carrier cultures.”
Adam will virtually accept the award in ceremony during NICWA’s upcoming 40th annual Protecting Our Children Conference.
In 2020, CSFS celebrated 30 years of providing holistic wellness service for its member nations. The organization was created to reassert First Nations' control of justice, health, social and family services all of which have suffered through the process of colonization.
CSFS staff work together across various disciplines to provide the best possible holistic wellness services to First Nations people in Carrier and Sekani territory.
