While RCMP investigators comb the shards of glass and wood from Tuesday morning gunfire near the corner of 1st and Tabor, arson investigators are piecing together clues after a Molotov cocktail torched two cars in the same area Thursday.
"There is no link we are aware of that these are connected in any way," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.
"The vehicle owners were checked and there is no indication that there is anything of concern there.
"One of the vehicles was even on loan and wasn't even usually there. No motive has been determined; this could have just been a really upsetting prank."
It was an incident that did significant damage to the two vehicles. Prince George Fire Rescue Service attended and came to the aid of neighbours who were shoveling snow onto the blaze. Douglass praised the generous help of those individuals.
The public also saw the suspect.
"A witness noticed somebody run across the parking lot, jump into a white car and leave the scene," Douglass explained.
"It was a male suspect, and it seemed suspicious, then moments later the neighbours saw the fire."
The incident took place at about 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, in a parking lot in the 100 block of north Tabor Boulevard.
Investigators confirmed that an accelerant was used, contained in a bottle set alight and smashed against the cars or the pavement below them.
Anyone with any information to help catch this arsonist is asked to contact police as soon as possible at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
