After more than four years, the head of the local YMCA is stepping down.

Mark Miller, the chief executive officers with the YMCA of Northern B.C. announced to staff Thursday that he had resigned his position.

Board president Pat Flack said Miller was leaving the Y, and ultimately Prince George, for personal reasons.

Miller's departure is not immediate and he will be around to help the new CEO when his position is filled, Flack said.

Flack hopes the recruiting process to be complete by the fall.

"We don't have a hard date [for Miller's departure]," Flack said.

Flack said he was sad to see Miller go and that the YMCA "got real lucky" when he was hired.

"He's done a lot for this community, not just the organization," he said.

Miller has been CEO since July 2009, after serving six years as director of operations with the Prince George Airport Authority.
