An Emmy award winning actor is the keynote speaker at this year's annual Dr. Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture.

Charles Keating will present "I and I: The Sense of Self," a one-man show reflecting on aging and wisdom at the event on April 10 at the Prince George Civic Centre.

"Throughout his more than 40-year career on stages and screens around the world, Charles Keating has brought vivid life to characters from the works of Shakespeare to the novels of Evelyn Waugh," says organizer Dr. Bert Kelly. "We feel very privileged to have such a distinguished speaker address our event."

Another highlight of the evening will be annual inductions into the Northern Medical Society Hall of Fame. This year's inductees are Dr. George Magee of Burns Lake, Dr. Geoff Cowburn of McBride, and the late Dr. Joe Sidorov of Prince George.

Tickets are $100 each and are available from UNBC's office of external relations at 250-960-5750. Proceeds support the NMP Trust and the Dr. Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture Endowment, which is held by the Prince George Community Foundation.

The inaugural Ewert lecture was held in 2004 to help raise funds for the NMP Trust which supports education and retention of health professionals in northern communities. To date, about $6 million has been invested in the Trust.

The late Dr. Ewert was born in Prince George in 1927 and graduated from Prince George high school. Following studies at UBC and McGill university, he went on to do surgical training in Detroit. He returned to Prince George in 1961 as a consultant surgeon, and was often referred to as Prince George's first modern consultant specialist. He died in October 2002, following a lengthy illness.
